MCHC is seeking a full-time Billing & Coding Specialist in our Medical Clinic.

Job Description
  • Review patient medical records, identify relevant diagnoses and procedures, and assign appropriate codes using standardized coding systems, (e.g. CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 and modifiers).
  • Prepare and submit insurance claims based on the assigned codes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payer guidelines
  • Review professional claims from beginning to end of claims process, until claim is adjudicated. This includes all edits, appeals, denials and secondary insurance claims to ensure proper payment for medical services rendered.
  • Attains key performance metrics and revenue cycle goals in areas such as accounts receivable, days not final billed, and days uncoded.
  •  Interacts with patients, providers and insurance companies to address billing inquiries and resolve issues.
  • Works with individual departments on charge corrections.
  • Provides follow up with the registration team as needed to promote accuracy in billing.
  • Prioritizes tasks and maintains flexibility as job priorities change.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ongoing compliance with MCHC educational and training requirements.

  • Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality.
  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships with patients, visitors, coworkers, and providers.
  • Actively participates in department huddles, in-services, meetings, and educational opportunities.
  • Follows all departmental policies and procedures and adheres to departmental budget.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of  ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS medical coding.
  • Mandatory Reporting certified or within 90 days of hire.
  • Overall attention to detail, organizational ability, and ability to prioritize.
  • The ability to work in teams and communicate accurately and clearly.
  • Computer experience using Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams.
  • Proficient in English to communicate with patients, families, and other caregivers.
Preferred Education and experience
  • Previous medical billing and or coding experience.
  • Associate degree in medical billing, coding, or a health care field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for the associate degree.
